A Girl's Backpacking Diary to Vijayawada - Day 2

It was our second day in Vijayawada..

We started our day very late, as we had to meet a friend over there. Moreover the day was really hot and humid. As the sun started settling down by evening we started off to our destination for the day - Kanaka Durga Temple.

6. Kanaka Durga Temple This temple is located on Indrakeelaadri Hill along the banks of Krishna river which is at a distance of 2.5 Km from the Vijayawada bus station.

Direct bus (Durgamma Divyaratham) to the hillock where the temple is located is available from the Pandit Nehru Bus station. Alternatively one can reach the temple by walking up the hill which will take hardly 15-20 minutes.

It is said that this is the place where Goddess Durga(Hindu goddess) rested for a while after killing Mahishasura (Demon). Ofcourse, there are many legends associated with this temple..

Photography is not allowed inside the temple. One has to keep Camera or phone-with camera in the counters provided at the entrance of the temple.

Next place we wanted to visit was Prakasam Barrage.

7. Prakasam Barrage

Barrage is basically a dam. Prakasam barrage connects Krishna district to Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh. Its located very near to the Kanaka Durga temple. We went on foot to the barrage. It looked more like a bridge.

We didn't walk over the entire stretch of 1.2 KM, as our time got wasted because the road was blocked for some VVIP to pass through

We got the privilege to walk through the empty roads of barrage as soon as the VIP had gone, which is otherwise filled with vehicles.

However, lack of proper fencing is making prakasam barrage a most sought after suicide point in Vijayawada.

Food in Vijayawada..

Try out south Indian delicacies like Dosa, Idli and Andhra special Thali

The street where we stayed in became lively with many varieties of street foods by evening.

What we missed here

As we were travelling mostly by shared autos and in bus, we couldn't visit some places due to the lack of time and tiredness. I will list down more places to see which we missed..

  • Rajiv Gandhi Park which is 1km distance from bus station.

  • River Museum which portrays aspects of the Krishna River

( If I missed any place, let me know in the comments below, would love to see it on our next visit..)

And it was time for us to say goodbye to Vijayawada.

It's good to take a break from the usual routine of things what we do. Be it work or traveling or whatever. This time for me it was the place and the company I got to roam with.

It was worth an experience, setting out to a complete strange place with the company of a girl without knowing the regional language and much about the place. And Vijayawada didn't disappoint us. The place was beautiful and the people were compassionate. Moreover, all the visiting places are somewhat near and easily approachable by public transport. Hence the money spent for the whole trip was much lesser.

This trip for us was about knowing new things and feel it instead of hurrying to see every nook and corner..

Do you take break from what you do routinely ???
If so, whats your way and how you do it??
I'd love to hear from you in the comments..

    1. Yeah.. Heard that the beach is beautiful.. But I think if we are relying on public transport, we need more time to club Suryalanka beach and amaravathy stupa along with Vijayawada.. Anyway, planning to visit Suryalanka beach soon.. :) Thankyou for the suggestion..
